The Community Relations intern is a full time, temporary member of the community relations department and is responsible for assisting in the implementation of ongoing community relations programs and enhancing program particulars.

EXPERIENCE:

Two years of more (rising junior) of progressive college level education in marketing, public relations, communications, business or related fields.

 KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Provide necessary skills for the effective performance of the activities of the assigned position within policies and procedures and working with various cooperative stake holders including members, youth, teachers/educational leaders, and local non-profit organizations on a variety of established programs.
  • Assist in developing potential program enhancements for future implementation.
  • Provide assistance with analysis of implemented programs for future enhancement.
  • Assist in planning and implementation of departmental and company goals and objectives.

ABILITIES AND SKILLS:

  • Must be able to work with very little supervision and be proactive in identifying and fulfilling responsibilities.
  • Must have ability to research and implement work plans, make sound decisions from observations and carry out instructions.
  • Must have the ability to follow instructions, use good judgment, prioritize work, and pay attention to detail.
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines; as well as, work in harmony with many different personality types.
  • Must possess a strong ability to communicate in both verbal and written form.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Must have knowledge of basic marketing, public relations and communications practices.
  • The intern will be employed by and paid by a temporary employment agency; therefore, candidates must meet the requirements of Blue Ridge Energy and the hiring agency.
  • Work hours will be 8AM to 5PM from Monday to Friday to begin work mid-May and end the first week in August.
  • The individual should have a valid US driver's license, good driving record, and pass a pre-employment screening that includes a background check and drug screen.
  • Ability to communicate and work well with others to accomplish goals and achieve successful results
  • Ability to follow instructions, use good judgment, prioritize work, pay attention to detail, and exhibit analytical reasoning.
  • Ability to adhere to safe work practices
  • Research and project management skills are required
  • Preference given to individuals who live in our service area
